Who is the CMAB?

The CMAB is one of 11 Regional Arts Councils in the State of Minnesota. The organization receives an appropriation from the MN State Legislature and the McKnight Foundation. The CMAB offers grants and services to individual artists, arts organizations, schools and students throughout the four counties of Benton, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright.

What is a CMAB Advisor?

The CMAB occasionally use the services of volunteer advisors who review grant applications, make funding recommendations, advise the board on policies and other services when needed.

All advisory panel and committee meetings are open to the public. Advisors will be reimbursed for travel and expenses, but are not compensated for their services. Advisory Panels and committees are made up of artists, arts professionals, community members and others actively involved in the arts.

Advisors are appointed by the board. The CMAB uses an open nomination process to identify potential advisors. Individuals may nominate themselves, or others, who fit the profile below.

Arts Advisory Profile Nominees should:

  • be at least eighteen years of age
  • live in Minnesota
  • and have experience in one or more of theses areas:
    • An artistic discipline
    • Arts education
    • Aesthetic decision making
    • Financial or organizational management of nonprofit organizations
    • Public art issues and acquisition procedures
    • Community-based arts projects
Advisors need to have outstanding knowledge and professional qualifications in the arts, and the ability to work well in a group. In addition, the CMAB looks for advisors who are willing to commit time and energy to the review process and who exhibit sensitivity in making constructive critical judgments.

How Much Time Does Advisory Service Take?

The time commitment depends on which grant panel or committee the advisor serves. Most grant review panel meetings take 3-5 hours and involve several hours of reading (orientation materials and grant applications) prior to the meeting.

What Happens When I Submit a Nomination?

The CMAB creates a file for each nominee that includes his or her completed nomination form and resume. The nominee will be considered for appointment as vacancies occur.
