Teaching Artist Statement

I provide creative outlets for our area’s senior population with a fun, yet calming, encouraging energy.

Explore and Nurture Creativity in the classroom

I am a lover of all things creative as well as the benefits a creative practice provides. My passion is to ensure our area’s senior citizens have these opportunities and know they are able to do them. Whether at senior community-living settings or though online avenues, my goal is to facilitate the exploration, practice, and creation of art, unique to each individual’s personal expression and style. I also encourage participation alongside peers, providing a sense of belonging as well as greater inspiration while more perspectives bring more inspiration.

Residency Projects

1. Creative Flow: Establishing a Creative Practice. In this residency, seniors discuss the benefits of regular artistic expression and how to keep it flowing. We explore the how to’s of finding inspiration, gathering supplies, preparing to create, art-making, and how to keep creating.
2. Reconnecting Community Through Online Creative Practice. Here we work through the hindrances that keep us from being more fully connected and creative within our social circles. Participants are equipped with the technology, support, art supplies, weekly online meet-ups for art-making with a small group of their peers, and access throughout the weeks to more online support and inspiration.
3. Inspired Seniors Collaborative. When we can get together, I facilitate one-time projects with a group of up to four. Gathering around a large canvas, participants engage in the art-making process together to create a collaborative work. This residency may also be turned into a series of sessions with a core group, ending with an art show for participants to share their work with the greater community.

Valentines Art

All the world needs is love...and maybe a little bit of our art 🙂
