Teaching Artist Statement

Exploring movement and emotion in conjunction with music to guide the attitude of dance. Conveying movement as an extension of the music allows the audience to physically see the music interpreted.

Explore and Nurture Creativity in the classroom

First, I like to exercise the imagination while stretching with the class. I like to think of it as not only stretching the body, but the mind as well. Next I like to help my students isolate and figure out how to move each individual part of their body. Then we move on to combining movement of various body parts. Followed by various movements across the floor that help increase coordination and musicality.
Typically I also work on across the floor and center floor movement as well. Typically we also learn a combination and stretch and the end of class. Much of the time we build the choreography as a group based upon our ability and curiosity.

Residency Projects

Creative Movement - this is a class that can be ran as a toddler thru adult class. Helping others figure out how to move their bodies in a creative way with few parameters is essential to the success of the class.
