Central MN Arts Board awards Project Grants to area organizations

Congrats Project Grant Awards

At the May 9, 2019 meeting, the Central Minnesota Arts Board (CMAB) awarded $191,951 in support of twenty-nine    regional arts projects. Applications are scored by a panel of volunteer artists, administrators and members of other community groups. Panel scores are provided to the Board of Directors and used in determining how to allocate funds. Criteria used in evaluating applications include: artistic quality & merit, demonstrated need, outcomes & evaluation and ability to complete the proposal.

Organizations may apply for up to $7,000 with a 25% match requirement for any one project or combined projects in a grant round. Funding for these CMAB Grants is provided through an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the state’s general fund, and its Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund created by the Voters of Minnesota.

Avon Hills Folk School, $7,000, to expand on the outreach and class offerings for Hand Camp 2019, held September 20-22, 2019, Avon, MN.

 Buffalo Community Orchestra, $7,000, “Music in Full Bloom” concert featuring Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major with guest violinist Sabrina Tabby and Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” May 11, 2019 at Buffalo High School Performing Arts Center, Buffalo, MN. As a concert partner, the Wright County’s Horticultural Society will highlight the joys of spring in Minnesota gardens.

 Buffalo Community Theater, $7,000, “The Music Man” performance that involve artists, technicians and volunteers from Buffalo and surrounding communities July 19-21, 24-27, 2019 at BHS Performing Arts Center, Buffalo, MN.

Central Minnesota Youth Orchestra, $7,000, World’s Fair: Science & Technology- student performance of music inspired by science and technology through the eyes of a World’s Fair experience November 16, 2019 United Methodist Church, Sartell, MN.

Chamber Music Society of St. Cloud, $7,000, Hub New Music concert and community outreach programs at area K-12 schools, St. Cloud State University and free family concert -Fall 2019 in St. Cloud, MN.

City of Monticello, $5,781 for muralist, Limpio to create a large entrance mural at the Monticello Community Center while teaching two workshops involving local seniors, kids and teens September 2019 in Monticello, MN.

Create CommUNITY, $7,000, to bring Pillsbury House Theatre as a keynote speaker to the 14th Annual Conversation on Race to provide a program that uses drama, humor, poetry and monologue to explore how systemic inequities, subconscious bias and misperceptions show up in relationships among people. An organized discussion facilitated by a trained artist follows each performance and uses deep reflection and dialogue to inspire action. October 9, 2019 at the St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center, St. Cloud, MN.

Downtown St. Cloud Art Crawl Collaborative, $7,000, Sizzling Summer Art Crawl 2019 that will feature artists exhibiting, selling and demonstrating their work, musicians and street performers in downtown St. Cloud- 5th, 6th and 7th Avenues and St. Germain Street September 9, 2019.

Great River Educational Arts Theatre, $7,000 for a student-directed musical performance of “Rainbow Fish” designed as a first theatre experience for young audiences ages 3-6 and their favorite adults November 2019 at Helgeson Learning Lab in Waite Park, MN.

Great Northern Theatre Company, $7,000 to present The Addams Family, A New Musical August 2-11, 2019 at the Glanville Smith Auditorium in Cold Spring, MN

HLWW Theatre Arts Boosters, $7,000, to present The Drowsy Chaperone July 12 – 200, 2019 at the Laker Theater HLWW High School in Howard Lake, MN.

Independent Music Collaboration of Central MN, $7,000 to produce the film Common Roots – A History of Local Music in Central Minnesota with a premier intended during the opening celebration of Common Roots August 21, 2019 at Beaver Island Brewery.

Minnesota Dance Ensemble, $7,000, “Love from Beyond the Grave” a moving story about how love conquers all challenges by remaining strong even for a zombie bride and groom October 31, 2019 at the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud, MN.

Monticello School District, $7,000, for local artist, Allison Hunsley, to conduct a workshop in mural painting instruction culminating in a mural on 155 Broadway St. E, in Monticello, MN July 2019.

Millstream Arts Festival, $7,000, for Millstream Arts Festival outdoor, juried arts festival presenting visual artists and musicians in a family-friendly festival environment September 29, 2019 in St. Joseph, MN.

Mississippi Strings Camp, $7,000, for Mississippi Strings Camp offering summer orchestra instruction and enrichment opportunities to area students through scholarships, lessons and guest teachers in June 2019 at Apollo High School in St. Cloud, MN.

Munsinger Clemens Botanical Society, $7,000, Music in the Gardens summer series of six free chamber music concerts presented on Sunday afternoons June 9 through August 18, 2019 and music for Art Fair in the Gardens July 18, 2019 in the Munsinger Gardens in St. Cloud, MN.

Rose Hall Media Company DBA Lyricality, $6,750, Poetry Pop Ups that consists of 15 or more established and emerging Central MN poets, family activities to engage young people and their parents/guardians in the reading and making of poems, distribution of free “pocket poems” in the November 23, 2019 “Shop Small Business Saturday” including downtown areas of St. Cloud and St. Joseph, MN. The project also includes nine digital “Poetry Pop Ups “on Lyricality’s website and social media platforms.

Paramount Center for The Arts, $7,000, Aquila Theatre “1984” presentation of George Orwell’s cautionary novel November 1, 2019 at the Paramount Center for the Arts in St. Cloud, MN.

Rough Draft Productions, $5,000, for the production of “Attack Plan Alpha!” original play written by Anthony Schrock October and November, 2019 at Pioneer Place Theatre in St. Cloud, MN. 

Sinclair Lewis Foundation, $6,750, Sinclair Lewis 2019 Writers Conference, offering all writers a chance to hone their craft and to form networks on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at First Lutheran Church of Sauk Centre in Sauk Centre, MN.

SOAR Regional Arts, $7,000, for Readers Theater, a strategy that combines reading practice and performing to enhance students’ reading skills and confidence August 2019 at Saint Michael Middle School West, Saint Michael, MN.

St. Cloud Film Festival, $7,000, 2019 St Cloud Film Festival to celebrate independent, local, and global cinema showing a combination of features and shorts from November 2-9, 2019 at the Black Box Theater and St Cloud State University in St. Cloud and Brickhouse Cinema in Foley, MN.

St. Cloud State University, $7,000, 2019 Lemonade Concert and Art Fair annual free-to-the-public outdoor concert by the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra as well as a side stage throughout the day featuring local performance artists from various performance media on June 27, 2019 at St. Cloud State University campus in St. Cloud, MN.

St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, $7,000, “Answering the Call” concert built around the consequences of artists answering the call Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Ritsche Auditorium, St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN.

The St. John’s Boys’ Choir, $7,000, Opera4Kids to introduce young performers and observers in the production of staged musical theater from the classical tradition spanning a variety of musical genres October 11-13, 2019 at Helgeson Learning Lab Theater in Waite Park, MN.

The Yes Network, $7,000, Art on the Move where art professionals share their art for inspiration and give access to a variety of art experiences for kids in fourteen area neighborhoods June through August, 2019 in St. Cloud, MN.

Wirth Center for the Performing Arts, $7,000, to provide students with more affordable lessons while enabling instructors to receive their regular rate with Discounted Lessons for Fall Semester 2019 in St. Cloud, MN.

Youth Chorale of Central MN, $5,529, A Choral Community outreach concert to bring in a variety of community, church and school choirs, in the spirit of collaboration November 3, 2019 at the Blattner Energy Arts Theatre in Albany, MN.

The Central Minnesota Arts Board supports collaborative and innovative arts opportunities through partnerships and financial investments in Benton, Sherburne, Stearns, and Wright counties as one of eleven Regional Arts Councils designated by the Minnesota State Arts Board working with community partners to increase access to the unique cultural assets of Minnesota.
